How to Spend 3 Days in ATX
Howdy, y’all! If you’re reading this, you’re looking for a rootin’ tootin’ good time in good ol’ Austin, Texas.
My digital nomad lifestyle brought me here for an extended stay through wintertime and I’ve got a whole itinerary laid out just for you cowboys. Let’s honk ‘n’ tonk!
Day 1: You will likely arrive hungry
Near the airport is Meanwhile with great beer, gorgeous branding, and a number of food trucks: BBQ, Mexican, hot chicken and more. If you want to head straight to a BBQ spot, stop at La Barbecue - you can walk across the street to Blue Owl Brewing after you eat - they specialize in sours. After that, swing through Odd Wood Brewing.
For dinner, Loro is a smokehouse with an Asian spin. Loved their smoked wings with miso aioli.
Day 2: East Austin area
Head over to Better Half Brunch, Beer + Cocktails which just so happens to share property with the kind folks over at Hold Out Brewing. From there, you’re a quick Uber ride over to Zilker Beer (also has food trucks).
At night, book a City Brew Tour from 6-10pm. Stops may vary, but we hit Independence Brewing, Nomadic Beerworks, and Lazarus Brewing (get the tacos). After that, we had to swing through Pinthouse. Highly recommend!
Day 3: Start strong
Start at Easy Tiger for brunch and bloody’s or go to Gourdough’s donut truck. We loved stopping for coffee at Cosmic Pickle.
Once you’re ready for some brews, hit up ABGB for their award-winning beer, then head over to a veritable adult playground with several walkable drinking and eating establishments on the premise. Start at St. Elmo Brewing Co., walk to Still Austin distillery next door, then walk a half block down to Vacancy for some amazing lagers.
Don’t miss the resident food truck, Sterrato Italian Specialties - they’re cooking up Italian food with a Japanese twist - think pasta with a gochujang sauce. Tell them Jess sent you!
If you’re still going strong and are looking for late night stops, head to the East 6th Street bars: The White Horse, Lustre Pearl, Lucky Duck, Hotel Vegas, Whisler’s…really anywhere in that area!
Bonus Day!
Get some breakfast tacos at Veracruz, Torchy’s, or Taco Flats. You literally can’t miss at either joint! Take an Uber out to Jester King Brewery, then swing through The Shady Llama on the way back.
If you haven’t had BBQ yet, swing through the legendary Terry Black’s (the long line moves fast, they’re like a well-oiled machine) and get the ribs and brisket. If you take BBQ very seriously, there’s a Michelin-rated spot called Leroy and Lewis that’s serving up rare cuts of meat. Absolutely delicious, especially their bbq beet sauce (trust me on this one).
