Chasing Craft Beer in Brooklyn
When it comes to beer (and hip hop), people typically lean one of two ways: east or west.
I have a lot of love for east coast beer, and just so happen to love New York, so when I had the opportunity to visit NYC, I jumped at the chance.
Check out some of my top Brooklyn picks:
Roberta’s Pizza
Go for: the pizza, of course. The Bee Sting, Cheesus Crust or Millennium Falco are my personal faves
Stay for: the vast outdoor space and rotating, local beer list of (including picks from Threes and Hudson Valley)
Grimm Artisanal Ales
Go for: Hyperfocus Cashmere, a single hop double IPA with strawberry, passionfruit, guava and rose
Stay for: the amazing décor (so many plants!) and Both Sides Now, a wine barrel-aged sour with apricots, raspberries and peaches
Interboro
Go for: the hip-hop inspired beers like Fat Like That, You’re All I Need or Real Love
Stay for: the cool vibe and their collabs with Finback brewing
Other Half
Go for: the double dry hopped IPAs. I especially liked Bagel + Schmear, All Citra Everything, Cryosleep, DDH Space Diamonds, Double Citra Daydream
Stay for: the awesome people, to-go list + merch. Plus I loved the collaboration with Chicago’s very own Mikerphone Brewing: Concentric Grooves, an imperial stout with pecan, maple, cinnamon and vanilla
BierWax
Go for: their killer vinyl collection and ever-changing draft list
Stay for: live music, events and super chill people behind the bar
Tørst
Go for: their dedication to serving rare and local craft
Stay for: the dreamy marble and mirrored bar and delightful food menu
Finback (it’s technically in Glendale, but only 15 mins from LGA so I stopped on my way)
Go for: their hazy IPA game is on point: Social Fabric + Compartmentalized were some standouts
Stay for: those barrel aged stouts, cool folks behind the bar and all-around positive vibes
Gold Star Beer Counter
Go for: Hill Farmstead and other delightful beers on tap
Stay for: the to die for interior design and ‘tenders who love talking beer
Each time I visit this city, I remember why the “I love NY” ad campaign has such staying power. It’s a city that never sleeps - and one that never disappoints - when it comes to the food and beer scene.
What’s your favorite beer coming out of NY?
