What's New on the Chicago Beer Scene

What's New on the Chicago Beer Scene

Home to over 150 breweries, Chicago certainly holds its own in the ever-changing craft beer scene. From Hop Butcher hazies to Phase Three stouts and everything in between, there’s something for everyone.

And now, there are some relatively new kids on the Chicagoland block putting out some incredible beer.

Here’s a roundup of a few of my faves.

Brothership Brewing: About 35 miles south of Chicago in Mokena, IL, sits Brothership Brewing, a UFO-themed brewery making hazy IPAs, sours and stouts that are definitely out of this world.

The owners come from a creative background and have channeled their love of art and creation into making high quality, innovative beer. That, paired with the friendly folks running their taproom, is why we’ve seen Brothership absolutely blast off.

Goldfinger Brewing: Located in Downers Grove, IL, this delightful lager-focused spot might just be the clear beer brewery we didn’t know we needed. Family owned and operated, Goldfinger strives for simple, clean and consistent beer.

Currently, they have three flagship beers punctuated by the occasional seasonal brew. Their core beers include an Original Lager, Pils and Vienna. All of which are served in their proper glassware, of course. Plus, Goldfinger uses sustainable brewing practices, so you can feel good about supporting a local, green operation.

Liquid Love: A bit north in Buffalo Grove, we’ve fallen head over heels for Liquid Love, a brewery with loads of heart and some pretty gorgeous branding. Known for their pastry sours like Grandma Hugs (think: lemon meringue pie in a glass), they’re also putting out pastry stouts, double dry hopped IPAs, lagers and more.

The owners come from breweries in the Chicagoland area, and their resident designer, Joe, puts lots of heart into their colorful can art. Swoon.
